Meet Linen
By Drew Strojny on February 8, 2011
Meet Linen, the newest member of our theme collection. Linen is a clean and flexible magazine style theme with some creative customization options. One of the coolest features is the option to completely control your typography. Linen uses select fonts from Google Fonts and gives you the choice to mix and match seven different accent fonts and eight different body fonts. Combine this feature with a custom background color or image and you have a truly unique and beautiful site.
I encourage you to check out the theme page for more details and the demo site for a live preview. Some of the many features include custom typography, custom background, featured slider, layout options, and much more.

Congrats on adding yet another fabulous theme to your name! I love the clean, uncluttered minimalist look of Linen. Being able to swap the fonts and change the background colors or import a background image via a user-friendly interface is very appealing. Keep up the good work. Yours truly.
Great new theme – but when will you be retrofitting existing themes so they can at least use fonts from Google Web Fonts (http://code.google.com/webfonts)? Several of your competitors already have this feature.
Kristy: Thanks! Glad to hear you like Linen :)
Bob: Thanks! If the feature is a success and ends up being popular we may end up retrofitting certain themes with Google Web Font support. I doubt we will add font support for all our themes, but you never know :)
Hi Drew,
I’ve just finished reviewing the theme, and from start to finish it was a real class act! Here’s the url to my piece: http://is.gd/3psi9O
Thanks again, and I’m looking forward to future work from Theme Foundry.
The video demo was interesting but doesn’t show how much customisation is possible to the header. It mentions adding a logo but I’d like more detail please.
Hi Sally,
You may upload any image you like for your header. This could be a logo or a wide banner. Hope this helps :)
Will Linen be getting added to the theme selections on wordpress.com anytime soon? It’s exactly what I’m looking for so I’d love to see it added.
Glad to hear you like Linen! It is not currently available on WordPress.com, but we are working hard to hopefully get more themes added soon :)
Are you able to have advertisement on the Linen theme? I didn’t see an option for that and it is very important to me as I shop around for a new theme.
Thanks-
Hi Jennie!
Linen doesn’t have any built in advertising features, but there are quite a few plugins that should help you accomplish that goal. Hope this helps :)
Are the pluggins available through Theme Foundry or do I need to get them through wordpress separately?
Thanks!
Hi Jennie,
Right now we don’t have any advertisement plugins. You would have to download one from the WordPress plugin repository:

Hi Drew,
Is one able to set up a contact us “column of fields” where one can input their name, phone number, email, etc and then ask a question…? I was about to purchase the pro version and did not see this as an option. I want prospects that find my sight to be able to fill out the form and have the site email me as soon as they are done inputting there info. This may be a feature that is built in to word press, but I want to make sure I can “insert” this into the linen theme. I know there are similar fields to “leave a comment” to a blog entry, but I want it to say “contact us” or something like that…
Thanks so much for your help! Great work with the theme. Out of all of the wordpress themes on the wordpress site, I liked Linen and Shelf the best!
Ryan
Hi Ryan!
I would suggest using a contact form plugin like Gravity Forms or the Grunion Contact Form. Either one should work well with Linen and give you the ability to add a “Contact Us” page. If you have any more questions shoot us an email (info at thethemefoundry.com).
Hi
I purchased your theme off WP and i love it but i want to do a custom header and dont know the width… Also, if i bought the theme off WP and not your website, am i not able to access your support forums?
Thanks
Lauren
Hi Lauren!
You’re exactly right. The best bet is to go through the WP.com Premium Theme support forum. The header width is 960px BTW :)
Hi and congratulations for that wonderful theme!
I will set up a blog and I am looking for a suitable theme. Linen is my favorite, so I’m likely to purchase it. But I am German and this will be a german blog, so I have some stupid questions: Is it possible to change the format of the date above the thumbnails on the front page? Is it possible to rename the categories like “ARCHIVES”, “RECENT POSTS” and so on? Is it possible to rename the Link from the teaser to the physical page (now called “READ MORE”)? The same with “PAGES”, “Search” etc. Sorry for these probably stupid questions, but I just want to be sure.
Thanks in advance and I hope, it all will work, because I’ve fallen in love with Linen. :)
Many greetings from Germany
Kerstin
Hi Kerstin!
Glad to hear you like Linen :) Would you mind sending us an email with your questions? Here is the address:

I wrote the email and very soon I got the answers. Thank you! Now I know, that with a few modifications I can use Linen just as I want to use it. I will now press the purchase button. :)
All the best for you
Kerstin
Hi – We love your theme. Is it possible to change the color of fonts?
Hi Catherine!
You would have to change the color of the fonts using CSS, it isn’t built in as a point and click feature.
Hope this helps :)
thank you!
Hi Drew – one more question… is it possible to change the .slide-content color?
.slide-content {
none repeat scroll 0 0 #EBEDED
float: right;
height: 270px;
padding: 30px 20px 0 40px;
position: relative;
width: 188px;
}
thanks! We just bought your theme and love it!
Thanks Catherine!
It should be possible. Drop us a line in the support forums if you’re running into problems:

Hi – We bought the Linen theme for WordPress.com. We are now transitioning to WordPress.org self hosting. How can I bring the Linen theme over to the new install?
thanks
Catherine
Hi Catherine!
We don’t have an easy transfer process in place, because we use different systems. Email us (info at thethemefoundry.com) and we’ll help you get going with the process.
