Photography now available for WordPress.com
By Drew Strojny on November 10, 2011
I’m excited to announce our Photography theme is now available on the hosted WordPress.com platform! If you’re a WordPress.com user you can buy it straight from the Photography showcase page or directly from your dashboard by navigating to Appearance → Themes → Premium.
I should point out that Photography on WordPress.com is not the exact same theme we sell here for self-hosted WordPress.org sites. The look and feel is the same, but the underlying functionality and setup has been modified to better fit the WordPress.com platform. The main difference being we use the Gallery Post Format on WordPress.com and a custom Gallery Post Type on WordPress.org.
If you’re confused about how the hosted WordPress.com platform is different from the self-hosted WordPress.org software see this article explaining the differences.

So if I have already bought the theme for a self-hosted blog, do I have to purchase it again if I decide to migrate my blog black to wordpress.com?
Hi David!
Yes, you would have to purchase the theme again if you want to move back to WordPress.com. The themes function differently and have slightly different features. You should be aware that the version on WP.com does not have the Flickr Gallery feature available on WordPress.org.
How easy is it to customize the background on Photography?
Hi Danny!
It doesn’t have built in background support if you want to venture outside the default dark / light color schemes. You’d have to edit some code.
